Still Finding His Feet
Milan is 17.
Not long ago, life looked like it does for most people his age. School, sport and time with friends shaped his days, with football a big part of that. Being active was just normal. It wasn’t something he had to think about.
Then everything changed.
A diagnosis of osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer affecting his knee, meant major surgery, including a full knee replacement, followed by ongoing treatment and recovery. Since then, daily life has taken on a different rhythm.
Things that once felt simple now take more effort. Getting to school, attending appointments and staying connected with friends all require more planning and energy.
There hasn’t been a clear before and after. Just a series of adjustments, as Milan and his family work through what life looks like now.
That adjustment shows up in the everyday.
Getting to appointments, making it to school and maintaining routine now require more coordination and support. Without a reliable vehicle, even the basics can become difficult to manage.
After hearing Milan’s story, the easyauto123 Newcastle team stepped in through Cars for Good, donating a 2016 Honda HR-V. The intention is simple. Not to change everything, but to ease the pressure that builds around daily life.
For Milan, the support came as a genuine surprise.
“I’m just trying to cope with this… this is crazy,” he said.
“I’m really grateful for it.”
It is not a polished response. It is honest, immediate and still being processed in real time.
For Milan’s mum, the impact has been more than just physical.
“Milan’s diagnosis… it was a shock,” she said.
“To go from that… to now seeing him making his way back up again.”
The progress has been gradual. It shows up in small, meaningful ways. A little more independence. Less pressure day to day. Moments that feel closer to normal.
On the day the vehicle was handed over, one moment stood out.
“Today is the first time we’ve seen him smile and laugh in a while.”
Through Cars for Good, the focus is not on a single moment, but what comes after.
That means getting to appointments more easily, staying connected to school and maintaining a sense of routine.
Behind the scenes, the Newcastle team worked to make it happen by identifying the need, preparing the vehicle and delivering support in a way that respects the situation for what it is.
The car does not change what Milan has been through. It changes what comes next. And for Milan, that is where the difference is felt most.
